Candidate Statement:

I really think that being a candidate for office is an important issue.
Believing in this town is the most important thing we can do.  I can see that we need a grocery store and I will campaign vigorously for the town to get one.  There are so many elderly people in this community that we need a store for them.  If anyone else wants to use it, I’m sure the town would welcome their tax monies

We need an emergency exit for the people in Blue Hills.  There are so many new people in that area that we really need for that to happen.  It has taken too long for the town to wait for that.  I will definitely be working on the town to get that into action.

Roads are another problem in town and I will be pushing for something to happen with them.  When the town started the roads were a mess.  Now they still are.  They had a plan to chip seal the existing roads and then stare on the dirt roads.  That hasn’t happened until now.  It’s a shame that they are only now starting to chip seal new roads.  We have a lot of money in the HURF funds we need to start using it.

The Superfund site is the next issue we need to address, and it has been a problem for more than 20 years. One question many people have asked is why the tailings were not covered at the beginning of the project. That is where the primary source of contamination exists, yet the initial focus was placed on cleaning residents’ yards.

If the tailings site had been addressed first, the main source of the problem could have been contained years ago. After that, efforts could have focused on the properties that were directly impacted by contamination.

Now, it appears progress is finally being made on the main site. We have been told work is beginning to prepare the area for a permanent cover system. In my opinion, that should have been one of the very first steps taken in the cleanup process.
