Who am I and why am I running for Council?
This is probably as real as it is going to get, and it is the only post you will see about my campaign for Council member of Dewey-Humboldt.
If I am being honest, this community would do me a favor by not electing me!
Who really wants to sign up for the “politics” of Dewey- freaking- Humboldt!?
I am a stay-at-home mom of 4. We have 5 kids total, and our oldest daughter just blessed us with the most beautiful granddaughter. Yes, I am a grandma with a toddler at home! I will be 41 in May..
Don’t ask how that happens. All I can say is that if your husband has had a vasectomy, don’t count on never having another child.
So how did I get here?
I moved to Humboldt in 2005. I met my husband shortly after. We got engaged 2 short months later. It would have been 1 month later if he had his way..lol.. but I made him ask again. Whiskey row can get to us all! Judges included.. 🙂
We just celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary! 🥰
Shortly after moving to Humboldt, my daughter started having major breathing issues. Issues that kept her in the hospital for days at a time. Every time she got better and we returned home, they all started again.
The day I received an EPA flyer, and realized what was across the river, changed our lives!
I started educating myself on what actually surrounded us.
I have zero education in this area. I never graduated high school. I received my GED at 29. I went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree in theology. This is Something that I am very proud of and hold dear to my heart. This is also the first thing I have ever accomplished in my life, besides being a mother at the young age of 17.🤦
Long story short, our daughter had Beryllium and arsenic in her blood. At the age of 3. It was actually a doctor with the UofA who suggested I look to the Superfund.
So here I am.
My daughter is now 23. We have been in this fight together for 20 years already.
I have taken every opportunity to educate myself and ask every question I can. I ask the question until I receive the answer in a way that I can understand. I then try and do my best to share that information with the community, in a way they can understand. If you haven’t noticed, Superfund and CERCLA law is like speaking another language!
This is the difference between a mama bear, and just someone who shows up to a couple meetings. I wasn’t asking the questions for myself or my own knowledge. I was asking the questions for my child’s health!
Most will not stand up and ask their question due to the risk of looking dumb. We have seen many instances with EPA, this Council and others, where this is their MO.
Make the person asking the questions feel stupid, and they will simply walk away! 😡
This seems like something I recall learning from my childhood.
There is no dumb quetion, except the one never asked.
For the longest time I tried to remain silent on political issues in our town. My thought was that once I made it public as to who I supported or not, the other side would stop listening to the Superfund issue. It was an issue that affected everyone, it had no boundaries to political affiliation.
My philosophy was proven right over the last 2 years.
Our community faces major issues! This isn’t limited to Dewey, and it’s not limited to Humboldt. We all know that there is an imaginary line drawn down 69, and what happens in Humbolt is their problem, and what happens in Blue hills is ours! I have lived on both sides of 69, and I completely understand both sides. Apparently because I chose to move my kids away from the smelter, my 12 years of living in Humboldt have no value.
I have watched so many people run for an elected position, or a seat on planning and zoning, to accomplish their own goals and it is sickening!
I have spent 20 years watching the federal government use our community as job security, and I hate to break it to you, that isn’t ending anytime soon!
I will never use AI to answer a question, and I have zero time to make videos.
What I will do is continue to show up and ask the questions that others are afraid to.
Our community has a very long history!
A history that includes the oldest little league team in AZ.
Up until last year.
We have the first homestead recorded in Yavapai County!
Unbeknownst to our Town Council.
Our Superfund site will be the most expensive site in Arizona with $500 million + spent.
We sit on top of a Gold Mine with some of the oldest buildings in the state still standing, and yet we have no historical district.
We have zero tax base and nothing to offer our children.
We have an abandoned landfill neglected by the state.
And our Public works still operates out of a Conex box. Hopefully it isn’t lime green!
What has happened to our community?
We have no little league. We have no ball fields. We have no park.
We have a defunct historical site that was clearly outlined for us.
We have a Superfund site that continues 20 years later.
We are covering up a Gold mine, at the same time that the largest gold mine in AZ history opens at it borders.
Blue hills has NO second exit.
Easement issues on Old Black Canyon are not solved.
And our Town continues to operate with Zero ethical standards.
Half of you may know me as the “Superfund”, and the other half knows me from our personal life.
Horses, cows, chickens and farms are all the reasons we live here. Oh, and to be left alone!
Our community is at a “turning point” 🙂
If our Town cannot pull it together with this next elected council, then I absolutely think we should look into disincorporating. But you need to understand that the County does not want the Superfund back!
Do not look to this election as a singular vote. Look to it as a team. Elect the 4 people who can work together to make a difference.
This is who I am. You won’t see flags with my name on them, and honestly, I don’t think you will see any signs. Not any that I pay for anyways.
I am not begging for your vote; I actually think I am doing the opposite..lol..
Whether I am on the Council or just in the audience, I will continue to fight for what I know is right.
My name is on the ballot, and the rest is in the Lords hands!🙏

Below is blowing dust from the superfund:
